I would never by a lite-on dvdrw they did at one time do a good job with their cdrw's but not lately. CDFreaks has some knowledgeable people no doubt, but they aren't gospel again their systems are different from mine, i've got a few of my scans posted over there and a few still can't understand why my scans look the way they do and some of theirs don't.

Your talking about a link to someone elses testing, I don't care about their test's and scan, other's testing is a good starting point to look at but it's what my drive does thats important to me not what yours does. My burns have always been consistantly good. There are plenty of cheap media in which the px-716 will have a huge PI spike at the end.Īgain you get what you pay for, I don't use cheap media and wont' for that exact reason, i've not experienced the huge spike at the end, not yet anyway. the only usefull hack I ran across so far was for the nec 2500 to 2510 to make the single layer burner a dual layer burner, because now I look at features and go from there.Īnd now after i've bought my drives you want me to buy another just for testing purposes? No chance of that happening. Ive used hacked firmware on a couple of occasions, but they way it's going now just to add speed tweak's or media tweaks or make it region free, or maybe it's a rebadge that you want hacked to the original because of features, just doesn't make any sense anymore, it's easier to buy what your looking for now. Hacked firmware is for the enthusiast that isn't afraid to take chances and void any and all warranties, and replace their drive if the flash goes bad, or heaven forbid you get a bad hack, it happens and you don't want to give people a false sense of security. official firmware is usually useless for me, and anyone who knows what they are doing. Use a liteon dvdrw, this is standard procedure.

Until something comes out that can do the same scans to compare the drives properly, I'll hold my full judgement, but right now the only thing that can conduct proper scans on the SATA drives is Plextools, we need something more oblective to complete scans, either cdspeed or kprobe, we'll have to see whats going to support SATA in the near future. I use both of the SATA drives from Plextor the 712 and 716, and both have done much better with each firmware update, mine hit 12 and 16 speeds depending on the quality of the media I use, this is one time where the term "you get what you pay for" really comes into play, if you want good consistant burns then the media will play a big part also.

If you do your review then it's always pitting them with the "stock" firmware, but if you want to use hacked firmware as a bonus then that fine, but not for an official publication, not many use hacked firmware anyway's hell not many update their firmware in the first place, not without being told to do so. Neither cdspeed nor kprobe will do the proper scans.Īnd another bad statement, no reviewer in his right mind would post an "official review" using hacked firmware, thats asking for trouble.

Kprobe isn't compatible with the Plextor SATA drives, but neither is anything other than whats avaliable with Plextools Pro or Plextools Pro XL. Any dvdrw review worth a damn will have at the very least kprobe tests for PI/PIF error rates.Īny dvdrw review worth a damn will have at the very least kprobe tests for PI/PIF error rates. They also could've tested some hacked firmware for the drives, which is closer to how a knowledgeable person uses such drives, instead of using stock firmware, though most other review sites don't do this either.Īll in all it's a fairly average review, but it doesn't even come close to telling the whole story. No Pit/Land tests, no beta/jitter tests, and no PI/PIF tests. In terms of dvd burn quality? Did any of your reviews (enlighs or not) do any PI/PIF and beta/jitter testing? If so, on what media? I know for a fact on Ritek and AML media my Plextor and Benq are lightyears (or parsecs for your scientists) ahead in terms of burn quality.Įdit: I just looked through that review. The name of the article is when translated to english "The dusk of the champions" or somethin like that if it makes any sense.

Nope, I am serious bout this, I also tried to find some tests online in english to backup my statement but nothin found so far except a detailed tests on 16x DVD burners in my language, no english translation but it the pics speak louder than words check out: Īlso I red an article in a PC magazine from my country with the same subject, the results are very similar and there's liteon1673 instead of 1653.
